HERE COMES THE NEIGHBORHOOD

COLD OPEN
1. Establishing of house.
2. Car ride approaching house. Exposition. Moving for mom’s job. Also dad will have new clients. Can’t afford a better hood.
3. Family waves to CALVIN from their porch. He seems grumpy.
4. IN CALVIN’S HOUSE: Discussion about the main family moving in next door. Calvin thinks the hood is doomed. Son Malcolm thinks it will be fine.

END COLD OPEN
ACT ONE
1. Gemma and Dave talk. Movers aren’t gonna be here ’til tomorrow. Dave needs a wrench for a repair. Says he’ll borrow it from a neighbor.
2. Dave gets the wrench from Calvin, but not without encountering Calvin’s grump.
3. Dave and Gemma get freaked out ‘cuz cops went to the abandoned house next door. Marty (Calvin’s son) comes over to check on the wrench. Explains that the cops are after Victor, the crackhead squatter. He spooks them with talk of the dangerous hood. They go to the kitchen.
ACT OUT: Marty invites them to dinner that night. His mom insists, so they can’t get out of it.
ACT 2
1. Dave at a latino bodega. He asks about the hood. Seems like it’s pretty dangerous.
2. ON THE STREET: Dave gets freaked out by a guy behind him. Turns out it’s Malcolm, the neighbor’s son. Dave is very jumpy and odd.
3. CALVIN’S FRONT PORCH: Dave is nervous. Gemma tries to convince him it will go well.
4. LIVING ROOM: Loretta asks Dave to leave the booze outside and it’s awkward. Just kind of an awkward scene to set the stage for….      
4. DINNER: Calvin and the white family get in a fight about    respect.
5. BEDROOM: Dave and Gemma talk. Dave wonders, “Was moving here a mistake?” Gemma convinces him it was fine and that he just has to be the superman she knows he is. A loud party interrupts them. Dave says he’s gonna go talk to the partiers even though Gemma wants to call the cops.
6. AT PARTY: Dave finds Malcolm. Then goes to talk to b-day boy gangster GREEDY about turning the music down. We dissolve out of the scene as Dave begins to possibly offer BBQ advice…
7. LATER AT PARTY: Gemma arrives. Dave finally asks Greedy to turn the music down. They are basically boys at this point.

TAG
Dave and Malcolm have a convo b/w their porches. It leaves Dave feeling like he’s cool and that he made a friend.
