A Bronx Life - Pilot Outline

This never aired but the pilot was enjoyable. A lot of interesting generational comedy and storylines.

COLD OPEN: p.1-3

• Vlad and his Dominican dad buying trash bags. We learn that the dad is a super and Vlad helps him out. Dad is named Ernesto.

 
 
ACT ONE: p.4-20

• Meet vlad’s mom and his brother. Brother is a player. Mom is nice. Vald works closely with dad who is super of building but he wants to get a new job, so he’s easing the dad into modern life with a debit card etc.
• Vlad talking to his boss and his boss’ daughter. She almost spills the job info secret in front of Vlad’s dad but he covers. Then Vlad tells a tenant he’ll fix his hot water later.
• LATER Vlad apologizes to the girl he likes about being weird about the job thing earlier. Shes busts his chops but promises she won’t tell dad before Vlad gets a chance to discuss it with him.
• Vlad’s dad finds out from the other guy.
• ACT OUT: Vlad’s dad is not happy.

 
ACT TWO: 21-33
 

• Vlad tries to help dad open a bank account but dad is secretly angry so he makes a scene and it doesn’t go well.
• Vlad asks his bro to use his bank girl hookup to open the account on the DL. Bro says okay.
• They present the dad with the debit card the next morning. Dad is happy. But then he learns that Vlad neglected his duties fixing the tenants hot water and focused on the bank card instead and he gets pissed b/c he knows how bad Vlad wants to leave.
• ACT OUT: dad storms out, determined to use his card on his own b/c he doesn’t need Vlad.

 
ACT THREE: 34-45

• Dad goes off to his his bank card. Vlad talks to mom about why is dad so mad at me?
• Vlad talks to Rachel, wondering what he should do about this job offer from her.
• Vlad goes to support his dad at the bank getting his money out. Dad tells Vlad that he accepted the job on Vlad’s behalf (but NIGHT JOB, so Vlad stays with him). All is resolved.
• ACT OUT: Vlad’s dad thinks he might be deported if he takes cash back so he, and the rest of the store, start singing the national anthem.

 
TAG: P.46

• Vlad’s dad checks on Vlad as Vlad is sleeping, then leaves. Vlad realizes “I’m never going to leave this guy.”

 
NOTE:  In both this show and the adam Goldberg show, the tag affirmed that the conflict would carry on going forward. Vlad asserting he wouldn’t leave and Imaginary Mary asserting that she’ll stick around. Interesting.
