A to Z - Pilot Outline

Sweet pilot. Good whimsy. Look back on it for whimsy and romance and comedy. It comes together in a satisfying way in the end.

COLD OPEN​
  • Narrator introduces us to Adam and Zelda. Adam is a romantic b/c he believes in his parent’s love. Zelda loves order and sanity, because she had a hectic childhood. She is now a lawyer. She is firmly against “signs” and “the universe.”
  • We are told that this is the day the two of them will meet.
 
ACT ONE
  • Adam and Zelda meet at the offices. He takes her to the labs. They like each other.
  • Adam thinks Z might be bi. He waits outside the door for her interview to be over
  • Quick pop shows us that Z’s first love was the law
  • Interview is over but A learns that Z exited out the back
  • A panics, but then he gets a call from Z.
  • Quick cuts show their relationship developing.
  • Then they are on a date. It’s going well until he accuses her of being the girl from his night at the show in the silver dress. She freaks out cuz she hates signs and fate and all that BS reminds her of her mama.
  • Z leaves. AND THAT’S THE END OF THE ACT.
 
ACT TWO
  • A talks the mix up over with his dad and Stu. He’s convinced it was Z at the show.
  • Z talks about  A with her roomie.
  • A convinces programmers to find out if Z was the girl at the show that night years ago.
  • Z gets accosted by the straight woman she was set up with who now has a crush on her.
  • A’s roommie gets caught in his lie about beinga soccer player, turns out he had been conning Z’s roomie
  • DESTINY and FATE cut both ways.
 
ACT THREE
  • A has his childhood suspicion about Back to the Future dashed by Robert Zemeckis
  • Z finds her silver dress in the garage
  • OFFICE PARK AT NIGHT they are the only two working late. She calls him and admits that she was the one in the dress. He hangs up.
  • She exits and he’s in the lobby. They kiss.
  • They go to the bar where they met and it’s cute.
  • Narrator re-affirms that this is the story of their relationship.
 
TAG
  • Turns out Zemeckis really DID have a hoverboard
