Goes without being said. Classic pilot. Tons to learn from studying this.

Outline on next page.
COLD OPEN

SCENE 1
We meet young Dharma. A well-trained child hippy.

SCENE 2
We meet young Greg. A young dweeb.

SCENE 3
Their eyes meet as he boards the train she is disembarking.

SCENE 4
20 years later and they have a missed connection.

Note: SO MUCH HEART already. Barely any jokes or even lines. You just get it.

SCENE 5
Greg regrets missing her. Gets to work, and there Dharma is, sitting on his desk.

ACT ONE

SCENE 1
Dharma found him in the newspaper cuz he has a public job and was in a picture. She is hippy dippy universe girl and he’s not. She invites him out to hear organ music.

SCENE 2
Organ music was BASEBALL! He sticks up for her. She asks, “Do you like blueberry pie?”

Note: Dharma is interesting. She said organ music instead of baseball game.

SCENE 3
Now they’re IN RENO eating pie. Very fun. And they’re talkinga bout true love and soul mates and they are clearly soulmates. They end up deciding that they wish there was some way they could skip the dating part. Then…

SCENE 4
THEY ARE GETTING MARRIED! And the organist is playing baseball music at Greg’s request. “Honey it’s our song!”

Very cute.

ACT TWO
SCENE 1
D and G basking in afterglow of sex. They learn that they both want kids.

SCENE 2
LATER they are basking after more sex and Dharma agrees to go to lunch with Greg’s mom. Greg freaks out.

SCENE 3
They stop at Dharma’s loft and meet Jane, the intense but cool roommate.

Note: Should Jimmy in LO FI be going through a break up? LARSON SHOULD.

SCENE 4 – LATER
They meet Dharma’s parents. They approve of him well enough, but Greg gets a heavy sense of how different they are. Looks like he’s getting skeptical…

SCENE 5
A tumultuous scene with Greg’s parents. They do not approve. Dharma particularly butts heads with them.

SCENE 6
D and G get in a huge fight. He wants her to change and she won’t. The crazy roommate gives Greg threatening eyss for the act out.

ACT THREE
SCENE 1
D looks to her parents for advice. The mom tells her to find someone who accepts her for who she was.

SCENE 2
Greg seeks counsel with HIS parents. The mom tells him to break it off.

SCENE 3
Greg gets advice from co-workers while they eat Chinese take out for lunch.  They aren’t much help, but he’s trying.

SCENE 4
Back on the bart. Dharma decides with Jane to leave it to the universe. Thinks she sees Greg, but it’s not him.

SCENE 5
Dharma returns home and there’s Greg waiting for her. He throws back the line she gave him very early on… “What took you so long?”

MUSIC CUE: ORCHESTRAL VERSION OF BASEBALL MUSIC.

So good. THE END. Fuck yes this is beautiful.

Note: I love the detail of her broken elevator in her apartment. SO Chuck Lorre. So rich. Really nice.

    NOTE

These outlines are not polished and they are not politically correct. They are bare bones and often do no justice to the script or the writers of said script. Posting the outlines here so they can be easily referenced when working on new pilots.  Also thought they might be helpful to other writers out there.

    Enjoy!
