EASY A - OUTLINE

This was such a sharp and fun script. Could read it all day. Actually one of few scripts that I really wanted to get back to if I got interrupted while reading. Woo hoo!

1. OLIVE to VLOG. This is the story of how I lost my virignigty and got my scarlet A.
2. RHI challenges Olive to name a sexy George cuz Olive is dating a George.
3. Olive intercuts the story of how Rhi wants her to go camping but Olive won’t b/c Rhi has creepy parents.  O pretends she has a date with a fake George to get out of it.
4. Olive describes her fake weekend with George Glass with cutaways. 
5. Olive lies to Rhi and says she lost her V to George. Christian Marianne heard it. 
6. Flashback to how Marianne sucks.
7. Back to Vlog: Talks about how it turned bad.
8. Olive attracts attention of guys. Marianne doesn’t believe that the V stuff was all made up. 
9. WE SEE the time she first kissed in 8th grade. 
10. Girl calls Olive whore. Olive retaliates. Gets sent to principal. He says this is your one warning and that’s it.
11. Olive tells her parents what she did. They don’t care b/c she’s a good kid. 
12. Olive makes friends with gay kid Brandon in detention. Plants the idea that he should go to an extreme to make an identity for himself.
13. Olive on phone with Rhi. Catching up. Continuing her lie. Brandon calls and says he needs to come over and talk.
14. Olive agrees to pretend to be gay kid’s GF.
15. She pretends to fuck him in a locked bedroom at a party.
16. Olive realizes she’s a whore but the gay kid is a champ.
17. Olive watching TV regretting her act. 
18. RHI calls all judgey and they get in a big fight. 
19. Olive sews red onto her clothes.
20. Olive in the halls of school slutty and powerful.
21. Olive agrees to pretend she slept wit ha fat kid for $500.
22. Olive to camera, setting up the next part of her story. how she turned into an actual home wrecker.
23. Olive and her teacher talk about what she’s doing. Then the teachers wife the guidance counselor comes in. 
24. Marianne and her Christian friends plot against Olive at their God meeting. 
25. Olive talks to guidance counselor AKA teacher’s wife. GC gives her condoms.
26. Olive is nice to Marianne. But then there’s a rumor she gave Marianne’s BF VD and also broke up the GC and the teacher.
27. Olive runs to the GC but the GC is packing her things. Angry at Olive.
28. The Christians protest outside b/c they want Olive kicked out of school.
29. Olive confesses her sins to priest. Doesn’t like it. Goes to protestant church.
30. p.75 - Olive talks to a PASTOR. Realizes it’s Marianne’s dad. Leaves.
31. Olive tells the story of how everything went to shit like right after she became friends w/ Marianne.
32. Quick cuts with V.O. show the friendship grow and then die. Turns out Marianne’s BF blamed Olive for his VD.
33. Olive agrees to GC to keep up the ruse. The GC gave the kid VD but Olive will keep that hidden. 
34. Olive agrees to go on a date with Rhi’s crush.
35. Chi spots them on the date. It’s not good. 
36. The dude wanted to pay her for SEX! olive gets out annoyed.
37. Olive runs into meerkat todd and he offers her a ride. 
38. Todd drives her home. They confess they like each other. He says he knows what she’s been doing. She says she’ll kiss him once her life is back in order.
39. Olive tries to get everyone to admit they faked it but none of her fake lovers agrees.
40. Even the GC won’t tell the truth to set Olive’s record straight.
41. Olive rats out the GC to her husband, the teacher Mr. Griffin
42. Olive repairs her relationship with Mr. Griffin. They are both feeling pretty shitty.
43. Olive apologizes to her web cam to Mr. G.
44. Olive witnesses the protests at school.
45. Olive cries at home. Then her mom confesses that she was an actual slut in HS. Olive realizes what she can do to fix it…
46. RHI in stands at school game w/ new friend Marianne who is judged
47. Meerkat Todd pulls Olive out of a dumpster and she performs a song
48. Olive announces that she’s gonna bone Todd online tonight at 6PM.
49. Olive talks to camera, telling everyone the truth, then she ditches the camera to be with Todd, who she loves. 
50. Over credits: Olive kisses Todd out on the lawn. we see all the kids that we’ve met reacting to Olive’s video. 
51. FADE OUT: Olive and Todd are still kissing beneath the stars

LESSON LEARNED: The narration in this works very similarly to the narration in Mike Birbiglia's 2008 pilot. When we go back to Olive, she's teasing out something bad that's ABOUT TO HAPPEN. That's so great, because it infuses so much tension into the story. Either that, or it's funny commentary on what already did happen, which obviously works too.
