Luis Guzman is a treasure and this pilot is great. It's very punchy and fast-moving and it had an interesting relationship between Luis and his son-in-law and daughter.  Also a good example of a vibrant setting (Spanish Harlem) done well.

Written by Will Gluck
COLD OPEN
  • we meet Luis doing his morning routine in Spanish harlem

ACT ONE
  • lots in the donut shop: Luis hates his daughter’s bf, he also is the landlord o the building, also Richie loves Luis’ daughter. TK sells crap.
  • Daughter tells Luis she’s covering her bf’s rent until he gets another art grant. Luis promises he won’t say anything.
  • Luis accosts the bf about the rent. But he’s interrupted when two cops show up. He kicsk them out then he kicks greg out.
  • Luis ex wife shows up and says you have to let greg the bf move back in again.
  • Daughter moves out. She’s pissed at Luis and so is Luis’ ex wife.

  • Luis’ ex advises him not to let the daughter out of his life like he did to her.
  • Luis maeks good with daughter. She says if he makes it okay with the slacker bf, then it’ll be okay with her and they’ll move back in.
  • It’s choppy apologizing to the douchey bf, but a lady has a medical emergency in the shop, and they form a unite to help her and try to get her to the hospital
  • Luis dens his precious car as he zooms out to go take the old lady to the hospital with greg
  • Then Greg helps him get the car in the right gear. Luis starts adjusting and actually liking it.

    NOTE

These outlines are not polished and they are not politically correct. They are bare bones and often do no justice to the script or the writers of said script. Posting the outlines here so they can be easily referenced when working on new pilots.  Also thought they might be helpful to other writers out there.

    Enjoy!
