The Brady Bunch - Pilot Outline

1/29/2017

Classic of all classics. Blended family shows are still all over the place and it seems like there's at least one sold every season, so why not honor the one that started it all with an outline. Plenty to learn from the simplicity and the balancing act going on in this script. We meet a lot of people but we get to know them well, and quickly.

Written by Sherwood Schwartz
COLD OPEN
  • Mike Brady is nervous at home before getting married. Breakfast with the three kids.
  • Carol is at home with her 3 girls. Also nervous. Then mike calls.

  • Carol readies the wedding at her place. We meet her parents.
  • The boys arrive.
  • Carol and Mike get a minute of alone time. They are happy to be together and he says she’s pretty.
  • Peaceful altar ceremony interrupted when the boys’ dog attacks the girls’ cat.
  • It takes a few pages and devolves into total madness. The cake and ceremony are a mess.

  • cut to the kids. But in their own areas, both upset that their parents yelled at them at te hwedding.
  • Bunch of intercuts til the parents decide to leave the hotel and go back to the kids
  • They wake up the kids and say they’re gonna take them along on the moon. Mike wakes up the girls.
  • Carol wakes up the boys.
  • The whole troop goes to the honeymoon hotel and parades past the snooty desk manager.
  • The whole crew marches off.

    NOTE

These outlines are not polished and they are not politically correct. They are bare bones and often do no justice to the script or the writers of said script. Posting the outlines here so they can be easily referenced when working on new pilots.  Also thought they might be helpful to other writers out there.

    Enjoy!
